In 1899, when S. R. Bradley combined a number of small local gas and electric companies, Rockland Light & Power Co. was born in Nyack, N.Y. Later, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., became a wholly owned subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc. The company serves approximately 292,000 electric customers in all three states and approximately 124,000 natural gas customers in New York and Pennsylvania encompassing a thriving 1,350 square-mile region, principally residential in nature, with a broad base of commercial, industrial, agricultural and recreational facilities. They also maintain 44,000 services.
Orange & Rockland offer services such as incentives and rebates, ebids, power switch, billing and metering, service installation, financial incentives and rebates to encourage energy efficiency, outdoor security lighting and smooth and timely delivery of energy services for construction projects, etc. On converting from oil to natural gas heat avail of a US dollars 1,250 rebate offer for qualifying customers. Their recycling and investment recovery program is a unique, award-winning partnership.
